At the climax of the 1877 Great Railroad strike, 45,000 militiamen were summoned to restore peace. On August 2, 1877 the Great Railroad strike was over. The states were back in order and railroads are fully operational again. The demands of the railroad workers were heard and their wages were restored. Many people believed that President Hayes’ usage of federal troops to break the strikes was unlawful. At the end of the Great Railroad strike many unfair working conditions were exposed to the nation. The Great Railroad Strike of 1877 became a significant national labor movement for the workers of America. It established the rights of workers and fair working conditions.
